They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery – so when Balenciaga debuted a bag looking strikingly similar to IKEA’s classic blue tote, the Swedish retailer replied with humor.
In a new ad unveiled Tuesday, IKEA gives its customers helpful ‘tips’ to differentiate the blue tote from its $2,145 doppelganger – singing the praises of the $0.99 FRAKTA bag in the process.
‘Shake it: if it rustles, it’s the real deal,’ the ad proudly proclaims. IKEA also told its customers to ‘throw it in the dirt’ because ‘a true FRAKTA is simply rinsed off with a garden hose when dirty.’
