If you’ve ever had a pesky skin tag then you know that those things can be annoying as all heck.
They always seem to appear in places where they get bumped and scraped and hurt all the time!
Like on your shoulder near your bra strap, or that place on your back that gets itchy and you forget about it until you scratch the darned thing! They just always seem to snag painfully on clothing or jewelry.
If you get them, or even if you’ve seen them on other people, you small, soft, skin-coloured growths that hang off the skin and look a bit like warts.
They’re extremely common and totally harmless, and can vary in colour and size from just a few millimeters up to a couple of inches wide.
But what even are skin tags? Well, they’re small benign tumors that appears on the skin, and they tend to mostly make an appearance where your skin forms into creases such as the armpit, neck or groin.
It turns out they’re made of loose collagen fibres – which is a type of protein found throughout the body – and blood vessels surrounded by skin.
They tend to occur more commonly the older you get, and in people who are obese or have type 2 diabetes. Pregnant women are also more likely to develop skin tags as a result of changes in their hormone levels.
But annoyingly enough, most of us seem to develop them for no apparent reason.
It’s understandable that due to their appearance, some people want to have skin tags removed, or because they’re sick of bumping and knocking them all the time.
Doctors can remove skin tags by burning or freezing them off in a similar way to how warts are removed. They can also be surgically removed, sometimes using local anaesthetic.
There are ways to do it at home, including tying off the base with thread or dental floss to cut off its blood supply and make it drop off, or cutting it off with fine sterile scissors.
Both of these methods sound kinda painful, so this video is a must see if you want to find out more about the most effective way to get rid of these little annoyances. Trust me, you’ll be surprised at just how easy this method is.
Dr. Doug Willen who appears on the YouTube channel The Health Fixer, details the most effective way to get rid of skin tags, also known as acrochordon.
His method is simple, easy and the only ingredient it requires is apple cider vinegar. The doctor suggests you try applying some vinegar to the unwanted skin tag with a cotton ball or paper towel a few times a day until it changes color. It should then quickly turn black and fall off.
As we have already seen, there are other treatments for removing skin tags like home remedies, medical procedures and even removal kits that are available in stores. But apple cider vinegar is not only the most convenient option, but it’s also probably the cheapest too.
If you haven’t been diagnosed with as diabetic already, it’s believed elevated blood sugar and insulin cause more tags, so you could be at risk. Always consult your doctor if you’re worried about anything like this, particularly since skin tags could be a pointer to a more serious health concern.
