6-Year-Old Is Punished By School For Kneeling During The Pledge Of Allegiance

Right now there is a lot of controversy in America on the subject of kneeling during the national anthem.

It’s a touchy subject that has a lot of people divided!

Last weekend 27 players from the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Baltimore Ravens decided to take a knee during the US national anthem before playing at Wembley Stadium in London.

This was the most players ever to kneel during the national anthem in a single NFL game.

This was seen as a defiant stance and it quickly became a form of protest against racial inequality within the US. But that’s not all it was peacefully protesting against, this act of defiance was against President Trump’s response to the Charlottesville white-nationalist rally last month.

Colin Kaepernick reasoning behind this knealing protest was both divisive but simple:

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder”

The Jaguars and the Ravens weren’t the only NFL teams to show solidarity against President Trump this week.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland Raiders, Washington Redskins and more all protested in one way or another.

The Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans took it one step further by choosing to remain in their locker rooms during the national anthem.

But what’s hilarious is President Trump’s response to the peaceful protests.

He could have addressed the issues of racial injustice behind the protest but he didn’t. Instead he hit out against the NFL, telling fans to “refuse to go to games until players stop disrespecting our Flag & Country”. He even suggested that any players who take a knee should be fired or suspended. Which is an offence he can actually be arrested or fined for.

It just goes to show you should never trust a Trump!

One young child decided to protest at his school, and took a knee during the pledge of allegiance at his elementary school.

The six-year-old boy in Pasco County knelt down during a reading of the pledge of allegiance.

His teacher found this as a disrespectful act against the country.

The teacher send a text message to the boy’s mother, informing her:

“I knew where he had seen it. But I did tell him that in the classroom, we are learning what it means to be a good citizen”.

When the teacher then told him “stand up and stop it”, he refused. Infact, the boy’s mother is actually angry with the teacher as she believes it’s not her “right”.

The boy’s mother said that she did not tell her son to take a knee during class, but she doesn’t want her son to be silenced.

The mom is currently talking to the school, and asking them to be more open minded, believing that the issue is “much bigger” than her son.

Linda Cobbe, one of the teachers at Pasco County schools said that they follow state law, and that the only way a student can be exempted from reciting the pledge of allegiance is with a written request from the parents. But even with a request, “they must stand”.

Cobbe also agreed that a more beneficial approach would have been to pull the boy to the side of the class and discuss the matter, instead the boy was publicly punished.

But the boys mom disagreed:

“The bigger issue is cultural. They have demonstrated to me, through multiple incidents, that they don’t take inclusion and diversity serious”.

Both the boy’s mom and the school are now hoping that the incident will be something everyone can learn from, after all the school “does not want to infringe on anyone’s rights”.

What do you think?

Should the boy have been punished in the first place?

Was it just a child copying something his favorite football team did one TV, or was he fighting for his right to be heard in his community?

What do you think about this?
