Being robbed is enough to make anyone reevaluate their life and what they post online.
Some of you may remember the infamous Paris Robbery from last year, where Kim Kardashian was robbed.
During this horrifying ordeal, Kim feared that she would be “raped and murdered” while robbers stole $10 million in jewelry.
A year later, the robbery has completely changed Kim’s life.
She’s completely changed how she approaches social media and red carpet appearances.
It’s a whole new side of Kim we thought we’d never see.
Here’s how the robbery changed Kim’s life!
One year on, here’s how the robbery has changed Kim’s life.
1. Social Media
Kim has completely changed the way she uses her social media accounts.
Social media and safety concerns had become a major issue for the Kardashian clan, in fact, the issue of security has been addressed in a few episodes of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
In the early stages of the investigation into the robbery, the French police said that Kim’s use of Snapchat may have alerted the robbers to the jewelry she had with her while she was staying in Paris.
Even the ring-leader of the robbers has said in court that Kim’s social media was a key part of their operation, and had even enabled them to plan the heist!
After hearing this information, Kim has changed how she uses social media.
Before the robbery, Kim would often post images directly from the location she happened to be in at the time, and they also showed off her flashy jewelry.
This meant the moment she shared those photos and videos, her exact location and what expensive jewelry she had with her became public knowledge.
“I’ve learned through experience not to post things in real time. I might take a photo, save it, post it when I leave the place or when I’m in a different location, because I don’t think that worked out for me so well when I was posting every last detail.
“I try to share my life. I definitely love doing that, but I think I’m a little bit more cautious these days about what I do share. I think it’s so important [to monitor social media usage.] It’s about boundaries. At home, I don’t have my phone. Dinner time, breakfast time, there’s no phone.”
2. A Change In Taste
Prior to the robbery, Kim was known to have rather flashy and expensive tastes.
But according to Kim, the whole experience has made her “less materialistic.”
In her first televised interview since the robbery, Kim told The Ellen DeGeneres Show:
“I was definitely materialistic before. Not that there’s anything bad with having things and working to get those things – I’m really proud of everyone around me that’s successful. And of course, when you get engaged you’re going to show off your ring. If you get a car, you feel really proud and you might show it off on social media. But I’m not here to show off the way I used to. It’s just not who I am anymore. I just don’t care about that stuff anymore. I really don’t.”
Since the robbery, Kim hasn’t posted a single image showing her possessions.
She also hasn’t worn a single piece of expensive jewelry since the robbery either, this includes her engagement ring!
The only piece of jewelry she wears now is her wedding band, which is so thin it’s hard to notice.
“They [the robbers] had been hearing interviews that I did, getting excited about this jewellery or that jewellery. And it’s not to say that I’ll never wear jewellery again, but I truly don’t know if I’d ever feel comfortable.”
3. Anxiety Attacks
Kim is still experiencing anxiety over the robbery, which includes traumatic flashbacks to the incident.
In fact, during one scene of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Khloé actually found Kim crying in hysterics as she recalled the events of that night.
It was so bad that Khloé demanded that cameras stop rolling.
Kim decided to see a therapist to work through the trauma.
“I know it’s time that I have to see a therapist. Because I don’t want to have these feelings and flashbacks. I’ve always been really aware of my emotions and how I’ve been feeling, and I never really thought therapy was right for me. But I also want to be responsible to my husband and kids, and do whatever I have to do to get through this and not be this crazy person that’s always scared and anxious. I don’t want to live my life like that.”
A year later, Kim is still facing issues with anxiety. told T Magazine: “I definitely get a lot more anxiety now, just with people knowing your every move.”
She told T Magazine: “I definitely get a lot more anxiety now, just with people knowing your every move.”
In another interview she said:
“My whole life has changed. I never thought I would need security staying outside of my door. I should have had a security guard outside of my door. Now I have several just for me to be able to sleep at night.”
4. Family Comes First
The robbery made Kim reevaluate her life and her priorities.
Now her family life is her main focus.
After the robbery, she canceled all work and public appearances and spent three months at home being a full-time mother to her two children.
Kim said: “Being at home for so many months and just taking work out of the equation and really being a stay at home mom has been so refreshing. I’d love to expand my family and have this whole world at home.”
After finally returning to social media, for a whole week her photos were purely family focused.
“My whole world is my kids. It’s all I care about. From literally every last thing that they do, to what they wear, to all their activities. I love being their mom. I definitely don’t hang out with my friends as much, just because I have to be with my kids.”
What do you think about Kim’s drastic lifestyle change?
